JustEd panel discussion on equal opportunities in education in Finland

In July, JustEd is arranging a panel discussion scrutinizing equal opportunities in education at the Finnish public debate forum SuomiAreena 2018.

Do we really have equal access to education in Finland or is that a false assumption? To what degree can we influence our own future and how much does our parents’ socioeconomic situation, in terms of health, wealth, educational level and profession, influence our options in life?

In July, JustEd is arranging a panel discussion scrutinizing the assumption of equal opportunities in education in Finland. The panel discussion will take place at the Finnish public debate forum SuomiAreena in Pori, Finland, on the 20th of July at 11.30 AM. JustEd member Sonja Kosunen (Associate Professor, University of Helsinki) is representing JustEd in the panel. In her research, Sonja Kosunen has examined how educational policies, parental school choices and schools in less advantaged neighborhoods can hinder or alleviate the pupils’ equal opportunities and future prospects.

The panel discussion is arranged by JustEd in collaboration with the Helsinki Summer University, Karvi (the Finnish Education Evaluation Center) and Barona.
