Open lecture: Ethnographic research in VET and on youth transitions with the perspectives of social class, gender and ethnicity

Welcome to attend open lecture by Associate Professor Per-Åke Rosvall, Umeå University, in University of Helsinki on Thursday 11 October
Visiting scholar Per-Åke Rosvall has since 2007 been part of several projects with an ethnographic approach and with focus on young people’s education and transitions. This presentation will especially focus three projects funded by the Swedish research council, Active citizenship?, Critical thinking in vocational subjects and Rural youth, education, place and participation. The common core in the presentation will be how social class, gender and ethnicity plays out different educational institutions and in transitions from compulsory education to upper secondary education and to work.

per-ake_rosvall_closeupRosvall works in the field of sociology of education with focus on social class, gender, ethnicity and place. He is currently leading two projects in Sweden, Critical thinking in vocational subjects? funded by The Swedish Research Council and Integration of newly arrived immigrants in rural areas through local educational institutions, funded by The Family Kamprad Foundation. In addition he is participating in the project Moving on – Youth attending an introduction program and their career support in varying local contexts funded by The Swedish Research Council, led by Lisbeth Lundahl. Rosvall is member of JustEd team 6. The lecture is part of the Athena seminar series.
