In order to understand processes of injustice and justice in education and in society at large, there is a need within educational research to widen the consciousness and conceptualization of race, racialization and education. This includes questioning norms and assumptions about whiteness or Westernness.

Tobias Hübinette will give an open lecture and workshop on ‘Whiteness, race and racialization in the Nordic countries with an emphasis on Sweden’ Friday 9 September at 10–17 at University of Helsinki, Siltavuorenpenger.

13-17 Workshop with Tobias Hübinette for the enrolled (venue: Minerva K113, Siltavuorenpenger 5A). Together with Hübinette we problematize whiteness, racism and racialization in education.

Tobias Hübinette (Korean name: Lee Sam-dol) has a Ph.D. in Korean studies, is a Reader in intercultural education, a lecturer in intercultural studies at the Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies (ISLI), Karlstad University, and a researcher in critical race and whiteness studies at the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology, Uppsala University.

Tobias is organising a Swedish research network for critical race and whiteness studies and he is also a member of TRACK – Truth and Reconciliation for the Adoption Community of Korea.
